Located close to the international airport, Negombo has a reputation for being either the first or last taste of the country for visitors.

Bucharest, Romania to Negombo is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 3 hours traveling from Bucharest to Negombo. Plan for much hotter temperatures traveling from Bucharest in December, with highs in Negombo at 36°C and lows at 26°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 26th (Thu) so you can travel to Kandy.

Nestled between mountains in inland Sri Lanka, Kandy proudly bears its World Heritage Site designation while remaining culturally independent and colorfully picturesque.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and Kandy War Cemetery are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore hidden gems such as Udawattekele Sanctuary and World Buddhist Museum. There's still lots to do: stroll the grounds of Kandy Garrison Cemetery, relax and rejuvenate at some of the top local wellness centers, don't miss a visit to Royal Botanical Gardens, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery Kundasale.

You can do a combination of bus and flight from Negombo to Kandy in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to Nuwara Eliya.

Sitting high up in the hills, the green and pleasant Nuwara Eliya offers both a rich history and proximity to pristine natural areas.

Kick off your visit on the 30th (Mon): trek along Horton Plains Kalupahana Trail and then stroll through Horton Plains National Park. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: hike along Kirigalpoththa Hike and then get outside with Devil's Staircase.

Traveling by car from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya takes 2.5 hours. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Tue) to allow time to travel to Unawatuna.

You'll get in some beach time at Beruwala Beach and Ahungalla Beach. Get some historical perspective at Dutch Reformed Church and Unawatuna Devol Devalaya. Do a combination of taxi and flight from Nuwara Eliya to Unawatuna in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In December in Unawatuna, expect temperatures between 36°C during the day and 28°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 6th (Mon) so you can catch the train to Colombo.
