Pamplona or Iruña is the historical capital city of Navarre, in Spain, and of the former Kingdom of Navarre.The city is famous worldwide for the running of the bulls during the San Fermín festival, which is held annually from July 6 to 14. On the 25th (Sat), take a memorable drive along Alto del Perdon, see the interesting displays at Galerias Medievales, then make a trip to Palacio Real de Olite, and finally see the interesting displays at Museo del Vino. On your second day here, explore the historical opulence of Palacio de Arazuri, see the interesting displays at Fundacion-Museo Oteiza, then admire the striking features of Catedral de Pamplona, and finally brush up on your military savvy at Fortress and Walls of Pamplona.

You can take a train from Barcelona to Pamplona in 4.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or fly. Traveling from Barcelona in December, expect Pamplona to be a bit cooler, temps between 11°C and 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 26th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Zaragoza.

The city of Zaragoza is known as the City of Four Cultures for its interwoven history of Iberian, Roman, Moorish, and Christian influences.
Start off your visit on the 27th (Mon): pause for some photo ops at Palacio de la Aljaferia, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Basilica of Santa Engracia Church, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Monasterio de la Resurreccion, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Catedral del Salvador de Zaragoza. Drive from Pamplona to Zaragoza in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In December, daily temperatures in Zaragoza can reach 12°C, while at night they dip to 3°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Tue) early enough to go by car to Valencia.

A charming old city originally founded as a Roman colony, Valencia is the country’s third-largest urban center.
Museum-lovers will get to explore El Museo Nacional de Ceramica y de las Artes Suntuarias Gonzalez Marti and Centro de Interpretacion de Sagunto. Get some historical perspective at Parroquia de San Nicolas de Bari y San Pedro Martir and Plaza de la Virgen. Traveling from Zaragoza in December, expect nights in Valencia to be about the same, around 5°C, while days are somewhat warmer, around 19°C. "Montpellier is a modern, compact, and fast-growing city about 10 km (6 mi) inland from the Mediterranean coast with an active, youthful vibe.
Start off your visit on the 1st (Sat): get engrossed in the history at Musee du Vieux Montpellier, then admire the masterpieces at Musee Fabre, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Cathedrale St-Pierre, and finally contemplate the long history of Porte du Peyrou.

Drive from Valencia to Montpellier in 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of flight, bus, and train. Expect little chillier weather when traveling from Valencia in January: highs in Montpellier hover around 14°C, while lows dip to 4°C. On the 2nd (Sun), you'll travel to Marseille.

The 2013 European "Capital of Culture," Marseille is the largest port city on the breezy Mediterranean coast and the second largest city in France.
Get some cultural insight at Palais Longchamp and Hotel de Caumont - Art Centre. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Parc National des Calanques and Vallon des Auffes. Change things up with a short trip to Paroisse Cathédrale Saint Sauveur Aix-en-Provence in Aix-en-Provence (about 38 minutes away). The adventure continues: take in the dramatic natural features at Calanques, take in the spiritual surroundings of Cathédrale La Major, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Vincent de Paul Church.
