A global center of finance and transportation, Frankfurt is perhaps best known for its futuristic cityscape.
Altstadt and Town Walls will appeal to history buffs. Get a sense of the local culture at Siebers Tower and Burg Pfalzgrafenstein. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Frankfurt: Mathildenhoehe (in Darmstadt), Schloss Schoenburg (in Oberwesel) and Burg Stahleck (in Bacharach). There's much more to do: see the interesting displays at Dialog Museum, ponder the design of Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen, buy something for everyone on your list at Main-Taunus Zentrum, and steep yourself in history at Old Nicholas Church (Alte Nikolaikirche).
