As a home to some of Germany's most recognizable computer-tech companies, such as Siemens, Paderborn rebuilt itself as a center for higher education and information technology after World War II. Parts of its historic center, including cathedrals and traditional timbered houses, have been lovingly restored.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Mohnesee Staumauer and Paderborn Cathedral (Dom zu Paderborn). Get out of town with these interesting Paderborn side-trips: Bad Karlshafen (Weser Skywalk & Weser-Therme), Warstein (Warsteiner Welt & Bilsteinhohle) and Tierpark Sababurg (in Hofgeismar).
