The port city of Niigata has an association with tourism, but not really one to do with the city itself.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Niigata: Nagaoka (Ao-re Nagaoka, Yamamoto Isoroku Memorial Hall, &more), Sado (Yajima/Kyojima, Rengebuji Temple, &more) and Yahiko-mura (Yahiko Shrine & Yahiko Park). And it doesn't end there: take in the views from Bandai Bridge, catch a live event at Big Swan Stadium, meet the residents at Marinepia Nihonkai, and stop by Ponshukan Niigata Station.

For maps, more things to do, other places to visit, and other tourist information, use the Niigata tour website.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Niigata is an approximately 14- hour flight. You can also drive. The time zone difference moving from Malaysia Time (MYT) to Japan Standard Time (JST) is 1 hour. Prepare for cooler weather when traveling from Kuala Lumpur in April: high temperatures in Niigata hover around 17°C and lows are around 9°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Mon) to allow enough time to travel back home.
