The port city of Kure possesses a rich history of shipbuilding, and has served as a major naval base since the 19th century.
Visit Katsuragahama Beach and Mikasahama Beach for some beach relaxation. Do some cultural sightseeing at Yamato Museum and JMSDF Kure Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Kure side-trips: Former Naval Academy (in Etajima), Onomichi (Hirayama Ikuo Museum of Art & Ikuchijima) and Fukuyama (Fukuzen-ji Temple, Abuto Kannon (Bandai-ji Temple Kannondo), &more).
