The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Get a sense of the local culture at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle. Kids will appreciate attractions like Kinkaku-ji and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Dotombori District (in Dotombori), Oyamazaki Sanso Seikaro (in Oyamazaki-cho) and Minami (Namba) (in Namba). The adventure continues: tour the pleasant surroundings at Nara Park, wander the streets of Gion, explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Todai-ji Temple.

Start off your visit on the 8th (Tue): enjoy the sand and surf at Uradome Coast Oguri beach beaches, kick back and relax at Uradome Seacoast Marine Park, enjoy the sand and surf at Uradome Coast, then kick back and relax at Shirahara Kamogaiso Rocky Shore, and finally tour the pleasant surroundings at Shirawara Coast. Traveling by car from Kyoto to Iwami-cho takes 4 hours. Traveling from Kyoto in June, expect nights in Iwami-cho to be about the same, around 22°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 28°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Wed) so you can travel to Hiroshima.
