Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Attractions like Katsura Imperial Villa and Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan make great kid-friendly stops. You'll explore and learn at Osaka Shiritsu Toyo Toji Museum and National Museum of Ethnology. Explore Osaka's surroundings by going to Bamboo Forest Street (in Kyoto) and Koya-cho (Mt. Koya & Koyasan Okunoin). There's still lots to do: visit Dotombori District, wander the streets of Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street, see the interesting displays at Osaka Museum of Housing and Living, and explore the galleries of Mint Museum.

A city lying on Tokyo Bay, Urayasu used to stand separate from the giant metropolis next door, but now, even though it belongs to another prefecture, it seems part of the capital.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Urayasu Local Museum and Kashima Jingu. You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Tokyo Disneyland and Ikspiari. Change things up with these side-trips from Urayasu: Narita (Great Pagoda of Peace, Naritasan Omote Sando, &more), Historic Old Town area in Sawara, Katori (in Katori) and Sanchoku Center No.1 (Junsai-kan) (in Tomisato).
