The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
On the 13th (Mon), admire the natural beauty at Koko-en Garden, then take in the pleasant sights at Himeji Castle, and then take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Takamikura. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: steep yourself in history at Yoneda Taishiji Temple and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Mt Shosha hiking.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Himeji in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. Expect a daytime high around 20°C in April, and nighttime lows around 14°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Tue) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.
