Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Get some historical perspective at Sensō-ji and Kōtoku-in. Do some cultural sightseeing at Tokyo National Museum and Hase-dera Temple. And it doesn't end there: wander the streets of Odaiba, appreciate the extensive heritage of Fukagawa Edo Museum, make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, and admire the striking features of Tokyo Tower.

Zurich, Switzerland to Tokyo is an approximately 15.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of train and flight. The time zone changes from Central European Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually an 8 hour difference. Traveling from Zurich in June, plan for a bit warmer nights in Tokyo, with lows around 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Thu) so you can travel to Kyoto.

Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle. Your inner history buff will appreciate Kinkaku-ji and Sanjusangendo Temple. Venture out of the city with trips to Osaka Castle (in Osaka) and Kofuku-ji Temple (in Nara). Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In June, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 32°C, while at night they dip to 22°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Mon) early enough to catch the train to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
On the 16th (Tue), explore the historical opulence of Himeji Castle, admire the natural beauty at Koko-en Garden, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Shimmaiko Beach.

Take a train from Kyoto to Himeji in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Kyoto in June, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Himeji: temperatures range from 28°C by day to 24°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Tue) to allow time to take a train to Hiroshima.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Hiroshima to Ishigaki takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Traveling from Hiroshima in June, expect Ishigaki to be a bit warmer, temps between 37°C and 32°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 20th (Sat) early enough to travel to Miyakojima.
