An old castle town largely unspoiled during World War II, Kanazawa features well-preserved architecture spread across a range of districts.
Start off your visit on the 7th (Sat): admire the masterpieces at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, examine the collection at Ishikawa Prefectural Museum for Traditional Products and Crafts, and then take in nature's colorful creations at Kenrokuen Garden. Here are some ideas for day two: don't miss a visit to Seisonkaku Villa, explore the historical opulence of Kanazawa Castle, make a trip to Omicho Market, then admire the landmark architecture of Kanazawa Station, then steep yourself in history at Nagase house, and finally get to know the fascinating history of The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Gassho Style Houses.

Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Osaka (Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, Universal Studios Japan, & more). The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Start off your visit on the 14th (Sat): don't miss a visit to Shoshazan Ropeway and then don't miss a visit to Nishi no Maru Nagatsubone.
