A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
When in Sapporo, make a side trip to see Otaru Canal in Otaru, approximately 46 minutes away. There's much more to do: walk around Odori Park, take some stellar pictures from Mt. Moiwa, contemplate the long history of Clock Tower (Tokei-dai), and get a sense of history and politics at Former Hokkaido Government Office Building.

Montpellier, France to Sapporo is an approximately 21-hour combination of train and flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of train and flight. The time zone difference when traveling from Montpellier to Sapporo is 8 hours. Traveling from Montpellier in February, expect nights in Sapporo to be a bit cooler, around -5°C, while days are colder, around -1°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 9th (Sun) early enough to travel to Hakodate.

A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
On the 10th (Mon), look for gifts at Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, take in panoramic vistas at Mt. Hakodate Observatory, and then take in the awesome beauty at Mount Hakodate. On your second day here, take a stroll through Motomachi, then don't miss a visit to Hachimanzaka, then take in panoramic vistas at Goryokaku Tower, and finally admire the striking features of Goryokaku Park.

You can do a combination of flight and shuttle from Sapporo to Hakodate in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In February, plan for daily highs up to 1°C, and evening lows to -5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Tue) to allow time to travel to Nagasaki.

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
When in Nagasaki, make a side trip to see Huis Ten Bosch in Sasebo, approximately 1h 15 min away. And it doesn't end there: get engrossed in the history at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, see the interesting displays at Dejima, don't miss a visit to The Virgin Mary Statue on the Cape, and step off the mainland to explore Hashima Island.

Traveling by flight from Hakodate to Nagasaki takes 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and train; or take a train. Traveling from Hakodate in February, things will get a bit warmer in Nagasaki: highs are around 12°C and lows about 5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Fri) to allow enough time to take a train to Kagoshima.

Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Sat): admire the masterpieces at Nagashima Museum and then contemplate the geological forces at Sakurajima. Keep things going the next day: take in the pleasant sights at Sengan-en Garden, then enjoy breathtaking views from Shiroyama Observatory, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Mt. Shiroyama, and finally make a trip to Kagoshima Chuo Station.

You can take a train from Nagasaki to Kagoshima in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or take a bus. In February, plan for daily highs up to 13°C, and evening lows to 2°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 16th (Sun) so you can catch the train to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Mon): admire the masterpieces at Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kushida Shrine, then admire the striking features of Hakata Station, and finally buy something for everyone on your list at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center. On the 18th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: let little ones run wild at Ohori Park, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Dazaifu Temmangu, then take in nature's colorful creations at Komyozen-ji Temple, and finally go for a walk through Fukuoka Tower.

You can take a train from Kagoshima to Fukuoka in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight; or drive. In February, daytime highs in Fukuoka are 12°C, while nighttime lows are 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel to Sendai.

On the 19th (Wed), make a trip to Jozenji-dori Avenue, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Shiogama Shrine, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Entsu-in Temple, and finally go for a stroll along the water at Matsushima Bay. Traveling by flight from Fukuoka to Sendai takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and train; or drive. When traveling from Fukuoka in February, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Sendai: temperatures range from 5°C by day to 3°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 20th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
