An ancient town center surrounded by medieval ramparts, Avignon is a major city of Provence and a Mediterranean city in the Vaucluse department on the left bank of the Rhône River.
Visiting Grand Site de l'Aven d'Orgnac and Grotte Chauvet 2 - Ardeche will get you outdoors. Get some cultural insight at Eglise St-Trophime and Amphitheatre (les Arenes). Venture out of the city with trips to Roman Theatre of Orange (in Orange), Le Parc Ornithologique de Pont de Gau (in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer) and Tours et Remparts d'Aigues-Mortes (in Aigues-Mortes).
