An ancient town center surrounded by medieval ramparts, Avignon is a major city of Provence and a Mediterranean city in the Vaucluse department on the left bank of the Rhône River.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Palais des Papes and Ile de la Barthelasse. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Locacano Sports and Colline Saint-Eutrope. Step out of Avignon to go to Apt and see Veloroute du Calavon, which is approximately 50 minutes away. It doesn't end there: trek along Parcours de L'Art and take a spin around town with Natu'Rando.

Traveling by car from Annecy to Avignon takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Annecy in June, you will find days in Avignon are somewhat warmer (83°F), and nights are about the same (60°F). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Cap-d'Agde.
