Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Mannerheim Museum and Helsinki Cathedral. Appreciate the collections at Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum and Kansallisgalleria. Get out of town with these interesting Helsinki side-trips: Inkoon kirkko (in Inkoo) and Bellevue Beach (in Hanko). And it doesn't end there: wander the streets of Katajanokka, step into the grandiose world of Sea Fortress Suomenlinna, take in the spiritual surroundings of Uspenskin Cathedral (Uspenskin Katedraali), and get a new perspective on nature at Natural History Museum (Luonnontieteellinen Museo).

Sitting at the mouth of the Aura River, Turku is one of Finland's quaintest and most historically rich towns.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Turku Castle and Turku Cathedral. Step off the beaten path and head to Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova and Forum Marinum Maritime Centre. Get out of town with these interesting Turku side-trips: Rauma (The Church of the Holy Cross & Old Rauma). Drive from Helsinki to Turku in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. In January, daily temperatures in Turku can reach -3°C, while at night they dip to -9°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Wed) so you can catch the train to Tampere.
