Located in the South Holland province, Rotterdam is one of the Netherlands' most lively cities, as well as one of the largest trading ports in the world.
Kick off your visit on the 6th (Tue): buy something for everyone on your list at Markthal and then don't miss a visit to Rotterdam Centraal Station. On the next day, get in on the family fun at Efteling and then admire the landmark architecture of Erasmus Bridge.

The 2013 European "Capital of Culture," Marseille is the largest port city on the breezy Mediterranean coast and the second largest city in France.
Explore hidden gems such as Vallon des Auffes and Room Escape Games. Get out of town with these interesting Marseille side-trips: Les Baux de Provence (Carrieres des Lumieres & Chateau des Baux de Provence), Le Parc Ornithologique de Pont de Gau (in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer) and Amphitheatre (les Arenes) (in Arles). There's lots more to do: explore the wealth of natural beauty at Parc national des Calanques, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Cathédrale La Major, take a leisurely stroll along Le Vieux Port, and hike along Le Sentier des Ocres.

Fly from Rotterdam to Marseille in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight; or drive. Traveling from Rotterdam in August, things will get somewhat warmer in Marseille: highs are around 86°F and lows about 66°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Sun) early enough to take a train to Geneva.

Geneva brings the world to one small city with a huge expat population and the highest number of international organizations in any one city.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Chaplin's World and Cathedrale de Lausanne. Get out of town with these interesting Geneva side-trips: Chateau de Chillon (in Veytaux), Freddie Mercury Statue (in Montreux) and The Olympic Museum Lausanne (Musee Olympique) (in Lausanne). Venture out of the city with trips to Lucerne (Lake Lucerne, Lion Monument, & more) and Rhine Falls (in Neuhausen am Rheinfall). There's lots more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Grossmunster, take in the awesome beauty at Uetliberg Mountain, and wander the streets of Old Town.

Attractions like Zugspitze and New Town Hall (Neus Rathaus) make great kid-friendly stops. Explore hidden gems such as Altstadt von Fuessen and Partnachklamm.
