Founded in the 10th century as a Viking fishing village, Copenhagen has morphed into the cultural, political, and economic powerhouse of the country.
Nyhavn and Rosenborg Castle will appeal to history buffs. Get a sense of the local culture at National Gallery of Denmark and National Museum of Denmark. There's much more to do: wander the streets of Stroeget, steep yourself in history at Kastellet, take in panoramic vistas at Rundetarn, and stroll through Amager Strandpark.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Copenhagen is an approximately 17.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train.
