The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Explore Fukuoka's surroundings by going to Yasu Kogen Kinen no Mori (in Chikuzen-machi), Huis Ten Bosch (in Sasebo) and Nagasaki (Nagasaki Peace Park, Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, &more). And it doesn't end there: step into the grandiose world of Kumamoto Castle, browse the different shops at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center, make a trip to Hakata Station, and walk around Suizenji Jojuen Garden.

If you are flying in from Malaysia, the closest major aiport is Fukuoka Airport. In October, daily temperatures in Fukuoka can reach 27°C, while at night they dip to 19°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Fri) so you can take a train to Kitakyushu.

Kitakyushu

An important gateway for trade and travel between Honshu and Kyushu, the city of Kitakyushu has an old industrial waterfront and provides access to a number of natural sites across the wider region.
Start off your visit on the 12th (Sat): take in the views from Tsunoshimao Bridge, enjoy breathtaking views from Akiyoshidai Karst Observatory, then Head underground at Akiyoshido, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Shoin Shrine. Here are some ideas for day two: see the interesting displays at Kyushu Railway History Museum, then make a trip to Kanmon Tunnel for Humans (Shimonoseki Side), then stop by Karato market, and finally wander the streets of Mojiko Retro.
