The capital city of Quindio Department, Armenia was founded in 1889 by Jesus Maria Ocampo as he sought a hideout in the Quindio mountains.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Armenia: Salento (Bosques de Cocora, Adrenaline & Extreme Tours, & more), Mirador Colina Iluminada (in Filandia) and Montenegro (Globos Colombia & Parque del Cafe). A major center of education and commerce, Manizales also serves as one of the hubs of coffee production in Colombia.
Explore Manizales' surroundings by going to Thermal Spas (in Santa Rosa de Cabal), Casa de la Cultura (in Marsella) and Hacienda Guayabal (in Chinchina). Spend the 29th (Fri) exploring nature at Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados. There's still lots to do: contemplate the geological forces at Nevado del Ruiz, pause for some serene contemplation at Catedral de Manizales, make a trip to Torre de El Cable, and appreciate the history behind Monumento a los Colonizadores.
