The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Explore hidden gems such as Tenryuji Temple and Tofuku-ji Temple. Kinkaku-ji and Toji will appeal to history buffs. Explore Kyoto's surroundings by going to Dotonbori (in Osaka), Nara (Kasuga Grand Shrine & Toshodai-ji Temple) and Mimurotoji Temple (in Uji). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, take in the spiritual surroundings of Sanzen-in Temple, don't miss a visit to Eikando Zenrinji Temple, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 81°F in June, and nighttime lows around 67°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 16th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel to Sapporo.

Museum-lovers will get to explore Royce' Chocolate World and Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura). For shopping fun, head to Tanukikoji Shopping Street or Sapporo Underground Shopping Centre Aurora Town. When in Sapporo, make a side trip to see Chitose Outlet Mall Rera in Chitose, approximately 1 hour away. The adventure continues: examine the collection at The Hokkaido University Museum, admire the masterpieces at Sapporo Art Museum, take an in-depth tour of Hokkaido Museum Morino Charenga, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fushimi Inari Shrine.

Fly from Kyoto to Sapporo in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of bus and flight. Traveling from Kyoto in June, things will get slightly colder in Sapporo: highs are around 64°F and lows about 61°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 19th (Fri) to allow time for travel to Tokyo.
