On the Garonne River, Toulouse is on the site of an ancient Roman settlement, and even today, many of the smaller streets follow their Roman counterparts, while many of the red brick buildings are built in a pseudo-Roman style.
School Museum and Cite de l'espace will appeal to museum buffs. Do some cultural sightseeing at Cité de Carcassonne and La cité médiévale. Change things up with these side-trips from Toulouse: Maison de la Truffe d'Occitanie (in Villeneuve-Minervois), Grotte du Pech-Merle (in Cabrerets) and Carcassonne Center (Jeff de Bruges Carcassonne & Eglise Saint-Nazaire).
