Inverness, often described as the Gateway to the Highlands, is a thriving commercial and industrial center.
On the 6th (Fri), examine the collection at The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection), steep yourself in history at Fort George, witness the site of a historic battle at Culloden Battlefield, then step into the grandiose world of Inverness Castle Viewpoint, and finally explore the historical opulence of Inverness Castle. On your second day here, take in the exciting artwork at Castle Gallery, steep yourself in history at Beauly Priory, get some thrills on the water with a speed boat tour, witness the site of a historic battle at Battlefield Select Tours, then view the masterpieces at Scottish Flair Art Gallery, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Old High Church, Inverness.

London to Inverness is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also take a train; or drive. Traveling from London in September, things will get slightly colder in Inverness: highs are around 19°C and lows about 9°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Sat) so you can go by car to Fort William.

Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. Kick off your visit on the 8th (Sun): pause for some serene contemplation at Saint Andrew's Church, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Nevis Range Mountain Resort, then take in the awesome beauty at Ben Nevis, and finally take in the dramatic scenery at Steall Waterfall. On the next day, trek along Glencoe Lochan, then look for all kinds of wild species at Highland Titles Nature Reserve, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Lost Valley Trail.
