Fira, the busy capital of Santorini, sits on the very edge of a volcanic caldera.

The result of thousands of years of volcanic activity, the island of Milos features a craggy coastline interspersed by shallow beaches.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Milos Mining Museum and Archaeological museum of Milos. Visit Kleftiko Beach and Paliochori Beach for some beach relaxation. Get out of town with these interesting Milos side-trips: Goupa Kara Beach (in Goupa Kara) and Karas Beach (in Kimolos). On the 30th (Sun), enjoy a perfect day by the water at Pollonia Beach. There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Oneiro Milos, kick back and relax at Tsigrado Beach, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Thiorichia Beach.

Wine Island

The largest and most significant of a small group of volcanic islands located just 200 km (120 mi) southeast of Greece's mainland, Santorini boasts just over 15,000 permanent residents. Created by a massive volcanic eruption that likely destroyed a single large island, the archipelago still features an active volcano, which saw its last eruption in the 1950s. The easiest way to explore Santorini's craggy coastline is on foot. Start by visiting the archaeological sites on the island's southwestern side, which offer a chance to discover the area's ancient past with unobstructed views of the famed volcano.
