One of Poland's oldest cities, Krakow sits at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, its historical town center nestled on the left bank of the Vistula River.
Visit Krakow's Rynek Glowny Central Square and Muzeum Krakowa, oddzial Fabryka Emalia Oskara Schindlera for their historical value. Wieliczka Salt Mine and Stained Glass Museum (Muzeum Witrazu) will appeal to museum buffs. Step out of Krakow to go to Suloszowa and see Zamek Królewski, which is approximately 44 minutes away. Known to most by its German name Auschwitz, the modestly sized city of Oswiecim sits at the foot of the Jura Mountains, just 50 km (30 mi) west of Krakow.
On the 16th (Wed), contemplate the long history of Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau, then get engrossed in the history at Jewish Museum and Synagogue, and then pause for some serene contemplation at Church of the Transfiguration.
