Considered the country's capital of culture, Trujillo was the birthplace of the North Group, a community of artists and intellectuals that included celebrated poet Cesar Vallejo and notable novelist Ciro Alegria.
Kick off your visit on the 4th (Thu): contemplate the long history of Huaca del Sol y la Luna, contemplate the long history of Iglesia de San Francisco, then browse the different shops at Mall Aventura Plaza, then delve into the distant past at Chan Chan, and finally make a trip to Plaza de Armas de Trujillo.

Cusco

Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
Spas and Tambomachay are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Head to Mercado Central de San Pedro and Xapirifor plenty of shopping. There's much more to do: relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, explore the ancient world of Q'enqo, steep yourself in history at Plaza de Armas, and look for all kinds of wild species at Santuario Animal de Cochahuasi.

Do a combination of train and bus from Machu Picchu to Cusco in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. In July, daily temperatures in Cusco can reach 69°F, while at night they dip to 34°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Thu) so you can travel to Paracas.

A port town largely devoted to tourism, Paracas serves as a popular starting point for exploration of Peru's south coast.
On the 12th (Fri), don't miss a visit to The Chandelier, enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Roja, and then step off the mainland to explore Islas Ballestas. On the 13th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: fly like a bird with a parasailing or paragliding tour, then learn about winemaking at Bodega 1615, then view the masterpieces at Pukasoncco, Arte Precolombino., and finally get engrossed in the history at Museo Arqueologico Paracas.

Fly from Cusco to Paracas in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Plan for much hotter nights when traveling from Cusco in July since evenings lows in Paracas dip to 56°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Sat) early enough to travel to Arequipa.
