Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Step off the beaten path and head to Centro Historico de Lima and Museo MATE. Huaca Pucllana and Miraflores are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Spend the 13th (Thu) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Casa de Aliaga, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesia y Convento La Merced, take a stroll through Barranco, and admire the masterpieces at Museo Pedro de Osma.

A port town largely devoted to tourism, Paracas serves as a popular starting point for exploration of Peru's south coast.
You'll get in some beach time at Supay Beach and Playa El Raspon. Discover out-of-the-way places like Islas Ballestas and Tambo Colorado. Go for a jaunt from Paracas to Pisco to see Paracas National Reserve about 32 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: get outside with Outdoor Activities, get engrossed in the history at Museo Arqueologico Paracas, race across the water with a speed boat tour, and admire nature's extreme beauty at Freedom Park.

You can drive from Lima to Paracas in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Lima in June, expect little chillier with lows of 58°F in Paracas. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Tue) to allow time to travel to Cusco.

Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
Explore hidden gems such as Piquillacta and Moray. San Pedro Apostol de Andahuaylillas and Q'enqo will appeal to history buffs. Traveling by flight from Paracas to Cusco takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect cooler evenings in Cusco when traveling from Paracas in June, with lows around 35°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Sat) so you can travel to Puno.

Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.
Kick off your visit on the 23rd (Sun): contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Titicaca and then take a stroll through Luquina Chico.
