Capital city of the eponymous state, Oaxaca relies heavily on its colonial charm, its core a maze of tree-shaded alleys flanked by photogenic mansions, government buildings, and old churches.
Get some historical perspective at Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman and Basilica de la Soledad. Take a break from the city and head to Coyote Aventuras and Pueblos Mancomunados. Step out of Oaxaca to go to Tlacolula and see Yagul, which is approximately 48 minutes away. The adventure continues: explore the ancient world of Monte Alban, enjoy the sand and surf at Playa La Bocana, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, and stop by El Nahual.
