The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Get in touch with nature at Dolphin & Whale Watching and Mifuneyama Rakuen. Discover out-of-the-way places like Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims and Yutoku Inari Shrine. Step out of Nagasaki to go to Ureshino and see Hono-ji Temple, which is approximately 1h 30 min away. The adventure continues: get engrossed in the history at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, steep yourself in history at Suwa Shrine, admire the masterpieces at Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum, and see the interesting displays at Gunkanjima Digital Museum.

Set on the island of Amami Oshima, the city of Amami serves as an oasis for tourists.
Get outdoors at Mangrove Forested Area and Honohoshi Beach. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Kurasaki Beach and Modama Habitat. Change things up with a short trip to Full Fula Garden in Tatsugo-cho (about 40 minutes away). There's more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Tomori Beach and walk around Ohama Seaside Park.

Drive from Nagasaki to Amami in 18 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. In July, daily temperatures in Amami can reach 88°F, while at night they dip to 81°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel to Yakushima-cho.

You can drive from Amami to Yakushima-cho in 19 hours. Plan for slightly colder nights when traveling from Amami in July since evenings lows in Yakushima-cho dip to 75°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Thu) early enough to travel to Kagoshima.

Start off your visit on the 12th (Fri): boost your wellbeing at a local thermal spa, then steep yourself in history at Former Kagoshima Bosekijogishikan, then don't miss a visit to Sengan-en Garden, and finally tour the pleasant surroundings at Iso Beach. On the 13th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate the geological forces at Sakurajima, then get engrossed in the history at Kagoshima City Transportation Museum, then get engrossed in the history at Museum of the Meiji Restoration, and finally take an in-depth tour of Shoko Shuseikan.

Do a combination of taxi and flight from Yakushima-cho to Kagoshima in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and ferry. In July, daily temperatures in Kagoshima can reach 85°F, while at night they dip to 73°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Sat) to allow time to take a train to Fukuoka.
