Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Relax by the water at Yonehara Beach and Akashi Beach. Get a sense of the local culture at Cape Hirakubozaki and Ishigaki Yaima Village. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Kondoi Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Shiraho Beach, contemplate the waterfront views at Kabira Bay, and Head underground at Ishigaki Island Limestone Cave.

Darwin, Australia to Ishigaki is an approximately 20.5-hour flight. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Darwin in March: high temperatures in Ishigaki hover around 26°C and lows are around 21°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Mon) to allow time to travel to Hiroshima.

Kick off your visit on the 31st (Tue): take in the spiritual surroundings of Itsukushima Shrine, contemplate the long history of Itsukushima Shrine Torii, and then head off the coast to Miyajima. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: explore the world behind art at Hiroshima Museum of Art, take an in-depth tour of Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, then make a trip to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and finally examine the collection at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.

You can do a combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Hiroshima in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. When traveling from Ishigaki in March, plan for little chillier days and much colder nights in Hiroshima: temperatures range from 16°C by day to 6°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Wed) to allow time to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Gion and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Head to Dotonbori and Bento&cofor some retail therapy. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Nara (Todaiji Temple Cultural Center & Nara Park). And it doesn't end there: get in on the family fun at Universal Studios Japan, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and step into the grandiose world of Osaka Castle.

Take a train from Hiroshima to Kyoto in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In April, plan for daily highs up to 22°C, and evening lows to 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Mon) to allow enough time to travel to Tokyo.

Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Visit Senso-ji Temple and Tokyo National Museum for their historical value. Do some cultural sightseeing at Odaiba and Ginza. When in Tokyo, make a side trip to see Tokyo DisneySea in Urayasu, approximately 30 minutes away. Have a day of magic on the 9th (Thu) at Tokyo Disneyland. There's lots more to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, take in panoramic vistas at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, see the interesting displays at Edo-Tokyo Museum, and take a stroll through Akihabara.

You can take a train from Kyoto to Tokyo in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight; or drive. In April, daytime highs in Tokyo are 22°C, while nighttime lows are 12°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
