Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Minato Mirai 21 and Takeshita Street. Sensō-ji and Tokyo National Museum will appeal to history buffs. There's much more to do: take a stroll through Odaiba, get a taste of the local shopping with Ginza, have some family-friendly fun at Owl cafe Akiba Fukurou, and make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine.

Singapore, Singapore to Tokyo is an approximately 10.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight, taxi, and train. The time zone changes from Singapore Time (SGT) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Traveling from Singapore in December, expect Tokyo to be cooler, temps between 14°C and 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Mon) so you can travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Tofuku-ji Temple and Oharai-machi. Popular historic sites such as Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple are in your itinerary. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Ise Shrine Geku (in Ise), Himeji Castle (in Himeji) and Dotonbori (in Osaka). There's much more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Eikando Zenrinji Temple, contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, and take a stroll through Gion.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 13°C in December, and nighttime lows around 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Fri) to allow time to travel to Iriomote-jima.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Kick off your visit on the 30th (Mon): glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, enjoy the sea views from Cape Hirakubozaki, and then enjoy breathtaking views from Tamatorizaki Observatory. On the next day, enjoy the sand and surf at Yonehara Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at Kondoi Beach, and then stop by Yurateiku Market.
