On a trip to Shimoda, a small town nestled on the tip of the Izu peninsula, you can take advantage of the scenic sandy beaches and soak in the laid-back atmosphere.
Kick off your visit on the 16th (Sun): see the interesting displays at Izu Teddy Bear Museum, thenenjoy the sand and surf at Shirahama Beach, thensteep yourself in history at Perry Road, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Mount Nesugatayama Observatory. Here are some ideas for day two: make a trip to Irozaki, enjoy the sand and surf at Yumigahama Beach, and then kick back and relax at Tatadohama Beach.

Tokyo to Shimoda is an approximately 2.5-hour car ride. You can also take a train. Expect a daytime high around °C in September, and nighttime lows around °C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Tue) so you can travel to Narusawa-mura.

A gateway to a sprawling and diverse national park, a center of Shinto spiritualism and place of Buddhist worship, an emblem of the riches and dominance of the Tokugawa shogunate: Nikko means many things to many people.
Kick off your visit on the 20th (Thu): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nikko Tosho-gu and then explore the wealth of natural beauty at Nikko National Park. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 21st (Fri): contemplate the long history of Nikko Futarasan jinja, thensteep yourself in history at Taiyuimbyo Shrine, thentake in the pleasant sights at Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park, and finally take in the dramatic scenery at Ryuzu Waterfall.
