Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Explore Tokyo's surroundings by going to Tokyo DisneySea (in Maihama) and The Hakone Open-Air Museum (in Hakone-machi). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, admire the masterpieces at Tokyo National Museum, admire the landmark architecture of Tokyo Tower, and take some stellar pictures from Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

Newark, USA to Tokyo is an approximately 16-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of train, subway, bus, and flight. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 14 hour difference. Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from Newark in October since evenings lows in Tokyo dip to 60°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Mon) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Tue): contemplate the long history of Heian Shrine, then contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and then contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: examine the collection at Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts Fureaikan, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, then explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, and finally take a stroll through Gion.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kyoto in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 74°F in October, and nighttime lows around 60°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Wed) to allow enough time to take a train to Hiroshima.

Kick off your visit on the 31st (Thu): examine the collection at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, then steep yourself in history at Peace Memorial Park - Hiroshima, and then steep yourself in history at Atomic Bomb Dome. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the spiritual surroundings of Itsukushima Shrine and then don't miss a visit to Miyajima.

Traveling by train from Kyoto to Hiroshima takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In October, daily temperatures in Hiroshima can reach 73°F, while at night they dip to 61°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Fri) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Sat): stroll around Kabira Park, explore the activities along Kabira Bay, then head outdoors with Yonehara Beach, then enjoy breathtaking views from Tamatorizaki Observatory, and finally enjoy the sea views from Cape Hirakubozaki. On the next day, take in the waterfront at Nishi Pier, head outdoors with Kondoi Beach, then walk around Banna Park, and finally Head underground at Ishigaki Island Limestone Cave.

Getting from Hiroshima to Ishigaki by combination of train and flight takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: fly. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Hiroshima in November: highs in Ishigaki hover around 80°F, while lows dip to 71°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sun) so you can travel to Nara.

Kick off your visit on the 4th (Mon): walk around Nara Park, appreciate the history behind Todai-ji Temple, and then stroll the grounds of Koyasan Okunoin. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 5th (Tue): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kasuga Grand Shrine, examine the collection at Todaiji Temple Cultural Center, and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Koya.

Do a combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Nara in 6.5 hours. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Ishigaki in November: high temperatures in Nara hover around 62°F and lows are around 52°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 6th (Wed) to allow enough time to travel back home.
