The former capital of Guatemala and a World Heritage Site, Antigua retains its colonial charm and remains one of the most visited destinations in the country.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Adrenaline & Extreme Tours and Convento Santa Clara. Go for a jaunt from Antigua to Guatemala City to see La Aurora Zoo about 58 minutes away. Make the 15th (Sun) a stimulating day with a coffee and tea tour. Next up on the itinerary: contemplate the geological forces at Volcán Pacaya, pause for some serene contemplation at Iglesia de La Merced, delve into the distant past at Arco de Santa Catalina, and make a trip to Cerro de la Cruz.

Traveling from Panajachel in April, expect Lanquin to be somewhat warmer, temps between 99°F and 75°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 25th (Wed) to allow enough time to take a shuttle to Flores.

An island town, capital of the landlocked region of Peten, attractive Flores features pleasant architecture that complements the shimmering appearance of the surrounding lake.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Ruinas de Uaxactun and Ixpanpajul Nature Park. Explore Flores' surroundings by going to Cerro Biotope Cahui (in El Remate) and Canopy Tours Tikal (in Tikal National Park). And it doesn't end there: make a trip to Jorge's Rope Swing, look for all kinds of wild species at Estacion Biologica Las Guacamayas, and pause for some serene contemplation at Catedral de Flores.

Traveling by shuttle from Lanquin to Flores takes 7 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and bus; or drive. When traveling from Lanquin in April, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Flores: temperatures range from 92°F by day to 71°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
