Plan for little chillier temperatures traveling from Cologne in December, with highs in Zurich at 5°C and lows at -1°C. Nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz in the heart of the Jungfrau region, Interlaken became popular for its proximity to the mountains and lakes of the Bernese Oberland region.
Step out of Interlaken with an excursion to UNESCO-Altstadt von Bern in Bern--about 46 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: explore the striking landscape at Aletsch Glacier, have some family-friendly fun at Heidi's Photo Chalet, pause for some serene contemplation at Schlosskirche, and make a trip to Lauterbrunnen Church.

Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: pause for some photo ops at Punta della Dogana, explore the world behind art at Peggy Guggenheim Collection, take in the views from Ponte di Rialto, then snap pictures at Ponte dei Sospiri, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Piazza San Marco.
