The capital city of Quindio Department, Armenia was founded in 1889 by Jesus Maria Ocampo as he sought a hideout in the Quindio mountains.
Venture out of the city with trips to Montenegro (Globos Colombia, Parque del Cafe, & more), Plaza de Bolivar (in Calarca) and Cascadas del Rio Verde (in Cordoba). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Eje cafetero (Zona Cafetera), take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesa de Armenia, get engrossed in the history at Museo del Oro Quimbaya, and head outdoors with Canopy Los Caracolies.
