Founded in 1850 by a dozen German immigrants, Blumenau remains a place apart from the rest of Brazil largely thanks to its distinct European culture, architecture, and cuisine.
Venture out of the city with trips to Igreja Matriz Saoo Pedro Apostolo de Gaspar (in Gaspar), Pomerode (Zoo Pomerode & Portal Turistico Sul) and Parque Malwee (in Jaragua Do Sul).
