While Newcastle is known for its coal exports, it's also made a name for itself with a cultural boom.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Speers Point Park and Oakvale Wildlife Park. Explore Newcastle's surroundings by going to Scarborough Wine Co (in Pokolbin) and Hunter Valley Zoo (in Nulkaba). Cap off your sightseeing on the 11th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.
