Porthmadog, known locally as "Port", and since 1974, rendered into Welsh from its former Anglicised form, Portmadoc, is a small coastal town and community in the Eifionydd area of Gwynedd, in Wales. Explore Porthmadog's surroundings by going to Cwm Idwal National Nature Reserve (in Bethesda), Caernarfon (Beacon Climbing Centre & Caernarfon Castle) and Mawddach Valley - Arthog Bog (in Fairbourne). And it doesn't end there: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Snowdon, look for gifts at Castle Gift Shop, get outside with Dragon Raiders Activity Park, and make a trip to Gelert's Grave.

You can drive from Cardiff to Porthmadog in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of train and bus. Start off your visit on the 23rd (Sat): step into the grandiose world of National Trust - Chirk Castle, make a trip to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, and then relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour. Keep things going the next day: take a peaceful walk through Maes-y-Pant / Marford Quarry, then contemplate the waterfront views at River Alyn, then grab your bike and head to Nercwys Forest, and finally contemplate the long history of Erddig.
