Wakayama

— 14 nights
Split into two parts by the Kinokawa River, the city of Wakayama stands nestled in the eponymous plain, overlooked by a historic hilltop castle that was rebuilt after World War II. On a tour of Wakayama, you'll have the chance to take day trips to the prefecture's numerous natural and historic sights, as the town has good connections and also provides easy access to Osaka and Nara.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Shirarahama Beach and Enjugahama. For shopping fun, head to Toretore Market Nanki Shirahama or Rinku Premium Outlets. Change things up with these side-trips from Wakayama: Shirahama-cho (Sandambeki Rock Cliff, Senjojiki, &more), Kozumigawatoi (in Kinokawa) and Aritoshi Shrine (in Katsuragi-cho). And it doesn't end there: step into the grandiose world of Wakayama Castle, trek along Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes, examine the collection at Awa Odori Hall, and take in the awesome beauty at Mount Bizan.
