Eschew the tourist crowds and head to The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Smithsonian Institution Building. Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and Capitol Hill are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Next up on the itinerary: browse the exhibits of Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, admire the masterpieces at National Portrait Gallery, get engrossed in the history at Smithsonian American Art Museum, and wander the streets of Georgetown.

Family-friendly places like Walt Disney World Resort and Lighthouse Point Park will thrill your kids. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and Cinderella Castle. Venture out of the city with trips to Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp (in Cassadaga), Congo River Golf (in Kissimmee) and Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse & Museum (in Ponce Inlet). Step out of the city life by going to Wormsloe Historic Site and North Beach. Get some historical perspective at Mickve Israel Temple and First African Baptist Church. Take a break from Savannah with a short trip to Cockspur lighthouse in Tybee Island, about 34 minutes away. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Juliette Gordon Low's Birthplace, take in the spiritual surroundings of Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, wander the streets of Savannah Historic District, and stroll the grounds of Colonial Park Cemetery.
