Instead of Soviet buildings typical of Ukraine, Lviv boasts a charming Central European-style old town with World Heritage Site status.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Museum of Folk Architecture and Life and Church of Sts. Olha and Elizabeth. Do some cultural sightseeing at Dominican Cathedral and The House of Scientists. Get out of town with these interesting Lviv side-trips: Pidhirtsi (Pidhirtsi Castle & Roman CatholicChurch of the Exaltation of St. Joseph) and Olesko Castle (in Olesko). Yaremche is a city in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast of west Ukraine.
