A physical and cultural bridge between Europe and Asia, the transcontinental city of Istanbul serves as a living reminder of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires.
Hagia Sophia Museum / Church (Ayasofya) and Sultanahmet District are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Sultan Ahmed Mosque and Ulu Cami will appeal to history buffs. Change things up with a short trip to Green Tomb in Bursa (about 1h 40 min away). Next up on the itinerary: get engrossed in the history at Istanbul Arkeoloji Muzesi, take in the spiritual surroundings of Suleymaniye Cami , don't miss a visit to Sultanahmet Square, and contemplate the long history of Little Hagia Sophia.

Famed for its landscape of unusually shaped stone formations and churches cut into the natural rocks, Goreme sits in the central part of the country, an area originally settled during Roman times.
Take a break from the city and head to Goreme National Park and Gomeda Vadisi. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Güvercinlik Vadisi (Pigeon Valley) and Royal Balloon. There's still lots to do: get outside with Outdoor Activities, contemplate the long history of Museu a Ceu Aberto de Goreme, do a tasting at Turasan Sarapcilik, and explore by horseback at Lucky Horse Ranch.

While traveling from Istanbul, expect a bit cooler days and colder nights in Goreme, ranging from highs of 24°C to lows of 6°C. On the 11th (Sun), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel to Bucharest.
