Naples

Naples is the capital of the Italian region Campania and the third-largest municipality in Italy after Rome and Milan. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Naples: Salerno (Scale Di Via Velia, Giardino della Minerva, &more). There's much more to do: admire the masterpieces at Museo Cappella Sansevero, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Duomo di Napoli, delve into the distant past at Pompeii Archaeological Park, and examine the collection at Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli.

Land of the Sirens

A lovely town easily accessible from almost anywhere in the country, Sorrento overlooks the Bay of Naples and sits right on the Amalfi Drive.
Get out of town with these interesting Sorrento side-trips: Positano (Miniaci Art Gallery, Fornillo, &more), Salerno (Area Archeologica di Fratte, Palazzo d'Avossa, &more) and Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista (in Praiano). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Piazza Tasso, do a tasting at Limonoro, admire the natural beauty at Villa Comunale, and stroll through Villa di Pollio Felice - Bagni della Regina Giovanna.

Drive from Naples to Sorrento in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry; or take a train. Traveling from Naples in January, expect somewhat warmer with lows of 10°C in Sorrento. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Sat) to allow enough time to ride a ferry to Ravello.

Ravello

Best known for its celebrated terraced gardens, Ravello is a hidden gem of Italy's Amalfi Coast.
Step out of Ravello with an excursion to Fiordo di Furore in Furore--about 30 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: see the interesting displays at Museo della Carta, take in the spiritual surroundings of Duomo di Ravello, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Duomo di Sant'Andrea, and don't miss a visit to Santuario Santa Maria del Bando.

You can ride a ferry from Sorrento to Ravello in 1.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of train and taxi. In January, daily temperatures in Ravello can reach 15°C, while at night they dip to 10°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Tue) early enough to go by car to Matera.

Famous for its resemblance to the ancient settlements of Jerusalem and Cappadocia, Matera remains one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world.
Start off your visit on the 13th (Wed): appreciate the extensive heritage of Piazza Duomo, see the interesting displays at Museo Laboratorio della Civilta Contadina, then examine the collection at Sassi in Miniatura, then don't miss a visit to Sassi di Matera, and finally view the masterpieces at Massimo Casiello - Tornitura Artistica del Legno. On the 14th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: let your taste buds guide you at a local gastronomic tour, appreciate the extensive heritage of Sasso Barisano, and then delve into the distant past at Materasum Ipogeo.

Drive from Ravello to Matera in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of taxi, train, and bus. In January, Matera is little chillier than Ravello - with highs of 11°C and lows of 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Thu) so you can travel back home.
