The capital of Sicily, Palermo was founded by the Phoenicians under the name of Ziz.
Get a sense of the local culture at Cattedrale di Palermo and Baia Santa Margherita, Castelluzzo di S.Vito Lo Capo. Step out of the city life by going to Spiaggia di San Vito lo Capo and Scuba & Snorkeling. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Palermo: Cefalu (Cefalu Coast & Rocca di Cefalu), La Pasticceria Maria Grammatico (in Erice) and Calatafimi-Segesta (Tempio di Segesta & Teatro Greco di Segesta). The adventure continues: examine the collection at Museo del Satiro Danzante, pause for some serene contemplation at Chiesa del Gesu, explore the different monuments and memorials at Catacombe dei Cappuccini, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Spiaggia di Macari.

The landscape surrounding Catania, a medieval city on Sicily's eastern coast, is dominated by Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe.
Museo Archeologico Regionale Paolo Orsi and Monastero dei Benedettini will appeal to museum buffs. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Sanctuary of the Madonna di Tindari and Gambino Vini. Explore Catania's surroundings by going to Cathedral of St. George (in Modica), Scicli (in Scicli) and Chiesa San Paolo Apostolo (in Pozzallo). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of St. Nicholas Cathedral, steep yourself in history at Parco Archeologico Greco Romano di Catania, pause for some serene contemplation at Chiesa di San Giovanni Alle Catacombe, and take in the pleasant sights at Piazza IX Aprile.

Traveling by car from Palermo to Catania takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Tue) early enough to travel to Lampedusa.

Get in touch with nature at Spiaggia dei Conigli and Mare Morto. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at La Tabaccara and Centro di Recupero Tartarughe e Fauna Selvatica WWF. There's much more to do: don't miss a visit to Archivio Storico Lampedusa, enjoy the sea views from Faro di Capo Grecale, take a leisurely stroll along Cala Uccello, and look for all kinds of wild species at Centro Recupero Tartarughe Marine.

You can fly from Catania to Lampedusa in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of bus and ferry. In June in Lampedusa, expect temperatures between 28°C during the day and 24°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Fri) so you can travel back home.
