Inverness, often described as the Gateway to the Highlands, is a thriving commercial and industrial center.
Get out of town with these interesting Inverness side-trips: River Foyers (in Foyers), Beauly (Aigas Field Centre & Loch Affric Circular Walk) and Highland Falconry at The Struy Inn (in Struy). Spend the 6th (Sun) with some fine spirits on a distillery tour. And it doesn't end there: get outside with Thunder in the glens, contemplate the waterfront views at Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin, hike along Beinn Eighe Mountain Trail, and identify plant and animal life at Craigellachie National Nature Reserve.

Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. On the 12th (Sat), take an in-depth tour of Glencoe Folk Museum, appreciate the views at Glen Coe, then look for all kinds of wild species at Highland Titles Nature Reserve, and finally trek along Lost Valley Trail. Keep things going the next day: pause for some photo ops at Peace Memorial, admire the sheer force of Steall Waterfall, and then get interesting insight from Tours.
