Anzio is a city and comune on the coast of the Lazio region of Italy, about 51km south of Rome.Well known for its seaside harbour setting, it is a fishing port and a departure point for ferries and hydroplanes to the Pontine Islands of Ponza, Palmarola and Ventotene. Do some cultural sightseeing at Basilica di Santa Teresa and Sicily Rome American Cemetery and Memorial. Step out of Anzio to go to Torvaianica and see Zoomarine, which is approximately 38 minutes away. There's much more to do: stroll through Lido La Playa, kick back and relax at Rivazzurra S.R.L., cool off at La Capannina Lavinio, and join in the after-dark buzz at Callaloo.

Tivoli is a town and comune in Lazio, central Italy, about 30km east-north-east of Rome, at the falls of the Aniene river where it issues from the Sabine hills. Get a sense of the local culture at Villa d'Este and Villa Adriana. Head to Valmontone Outlet and Sartoria Litricofor plenty of shopping. Venture out of the city with trips to Sanctuary Mother of Good Counsel (in Genazzano), MagicLand (in Valmontone) and Monastero Di S.Benedetto (in Subiaco). Next up on the itinerary: take in nature's colorful creations at Parco Villa Gregoriana, learn about winemaking at Cantina da Santino, steep yourself in history at Pontifical Villas of Castel Gandolfo, and make a trip to Temple of Sibilla.

While Roman mythology dates the founding of Rome at around 753 BC, the site has been inhabited for much longer, making it one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Europe. The city's early population originated from a mix of Latins, Etruscans and Sabines. Eventually, the city successively became the capital of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire, and is regarded as the birthplace of Western civilisation and by some as the first ever metropolis.
