Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral) and Praia do Homem do Leme. And it doesn't end there: kick back and relax at Praia do Carneiro, stroll through Praia de Lavadores, take in the spiritual surroundings of Capela das Almas, and relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas.

Toronto, Canada to Porto is an approximately 10-hour flight. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Western European Time (WET), which is usually a 5 hour difference. Expect little chillier evenings in Porto when traveling from Toronto in August, with lows around 17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Tue) early enough to take a train to Coimbra.

Eschew the tourist crowds and head to University of Coimbra and Old Cathedral of Coimbra (Se Velha de Coimbra). The allure of the beaches and the town's historical center draw visitors to Lagos, a coastal destination in the Barlavento region of the Algarve.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ponta Da Piedale and Pro Putting Garden. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Lisbon.
