Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Palacio da Bolsa and Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral). Visit Torre dos Clerigos and Capela das Almas for their historical value. There's lots more to do: admire the masterpieces at Museu Serralves, explore the activities along Douro River, kick back and relax at Praia do Carneiro, and wander the streets of Rua Santa Catarina.

Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Head to Museu Calouste Gulbenkian and Rossio Squarefor plenty of shopping. Popular historic sites such as Mosteiro dos Jeronimos and Avenida da Liberdade are in your itinerary. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lisbon: Sintra (Park and National Palace of Pena, Quinta da Regaleira, &more) and Cabo da Roca (in Colares). Spend the 30th (Fri) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Belém Tower, snap pictures at Ponte 25 de Abril, take an in-depth tour of Carmo Archaeological Museum, and contemplate the long history of Castelo de S. Jorge.

When traveling from Lisbon in August, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Evora: temperatures range from 39°C by day to 19°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Mon) so you can drive to Portimao.

Originally a small fishing village, Portimão today serves as one of the most populated towns in the Algarve and also a favorite spot for sailing.
Get some cultural insight at Cape Saint Vincent and Antigo Mercado de Escravos. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Falesia Beach and Praia Dona Ana. Change things up with these side-trips from Portimao: Cerro da Vila (in Vilamoura), Dolphin & Whale Watching (in Albufeira) and Ponta da Piedade (in Lagos). Next up on the itinerary: enjoy the sand and surf at Praia da Marinha, stop by Rocha Surf Shop, stroll through Praia dos Tres Irmaos, and see the interesting displays at Museu de Portimao.
