The largest city in the Peruvian Amazon and the world's largest metropolis unreachable by road, Iquitos represents a major starting point for river and rainforest adventures.
On the 11th (Thu), identify plant and animal life at La Isla De Los Monos, look for all kinds of wild species at Amazon Rescue Center, and then identify plant and animal life at Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm. On your second day here, get outside with Outdoor Activities.

Kingston, Canada to Iquitos is an approximately 17.5-hour flight. Traveling from Kingston in July, expect Iquitos to be a bit warmer, temps between 36°C and 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Fri) to allow time to travel to Maras.

Cusco

Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
Tipon and Q'enqo will appeal to history buffs. Take a break from the city and head to Santuario Animal de Cochahuasi and River Rafting & Tubing. There's still lots to do: delve into the distant past at Sacsayhuaman, steep yourself in history at Sacred Valley of the Incas, and hunt for treasures at Mercado Central de San Pedro.

You can do a combination of train and bus from Machu Picchu to Cusco in 3.5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or drive. In July, daily temperatures in Cusco can reach 24°C, while at night they dip to 1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Thu) so you can travel to Puno.

Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.
Start off your visit on the 19th (Fri): explore the activities along Lake Titicaca, then explore the different monuments and memorials at Sillustani, and then make a trip to Catedral de Puno. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: step off the mainland to explore Uros Floating Islands and then head off the coast to Taquile Island.

You can do a combination of flight and bus from Cusco to Puno in 3 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Cusco in July, things will get little chillier in Puno: highs are around 20°C and lows about -5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 20th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Arequipa.
