Maras is a town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, 40 kilometers north of Cuzco, in the Cuzco Region of Peru. Kick off your visit on the 8th (Sun): delve into the distant past at Moray and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Salinas de Maras.

You can do a combination of train and taxi from Machu Picchu to Maras in 3 hours. Another option is to drive. In May, plan for daily highs up to 24°C, and evening lows to 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sun) so you can travel to Puno.

Puno

Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.

Traveling by flight from Maras to Puno takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of taxi and bus. Traveling from Maras in May, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit cooler in Puno, with lows of -1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Mon) early enough to drive to Arequipa.
